Imitation Game Ticket

Tomorrow (January 14th, 2016), is the day that the Oscar Nominations are released. Christmas morning for those movie lovers among us. Last year, I began what will surely become a yearly movie watching tradition. Over the course of six weeks, I had the pleasure of watching the eight films that were nominated for Best Picture. It was a great experience because I was able to talk about the Oscars with friends and give my opinion about movies over social media. Play the 2016 edition of the Oscar game with me this year! Here are my rules:

1) You must try to watch all movies legally! Some of the movies had limited releases and others came out early in the year. That doesn’t mean you shouldn’t try to pay to see them! Last year, I watched films via large chain movie theatres, independent movie theatres, Netflix, Apple Movies – it felt great at the end to be able to say that I supported these great films with my time and my wallet! In addition, it got me to see new movie-going venues in the city. Sounds like a win-win!

2) Document the process via Social Media! Even if it angers your friends, post a mini-review after watching each film. People will start conversations with you over lunch at work when they know you’re playing the Oscar game… you’ll be your workplace’s very own movie critic!

3) Post your favourites in order! Even though this will surely cause controversy with your friends as your favourites may not necessarily be the movie that wins the most awards… but who cares!

4) Oscar Pool(s)! Play in or organize an Oscar Pool… you’ll be well versed in the core movies fighting for Oscar gold – which may put you at an advantage in the race for office Oscar Pool supremacy.

Here’s how I documented my Oscar Game last year, via posts on Instagram and a final list on my Facebook. Happy Oscaring!
